Daily Smile #2

I came across this last week and cringe-laughed for a good few minutes. I’ll let you watch before I comment:

Oh, where do I begin. I mean, I’ve certainly heard my share of horn clams and mistakes of all kinds and “wtf-are-you-even-playing-the-same-piece?” moments on the podium, but one of the fundamental things a conductor should do is to NOT REACT LIKE THIS. In this instance I’m sure the horn player was mortified enough with his blipped entrance without having to face that look of death (he even stops conducting! During a concert!).

You don’t need to magnify a moment like this with pouting or histrionics on the podium. It doesn’t help the music, or the player, or the performance. The conductor in question is Karl Böhm, an artist I generally have a deep respect for, but not in this instance. It’s a bit of bad conductor behavior…

…but it made me laugh all the same!

I did not mean to say that the arts or conducting was BS. I was flagonthemoon on twitter and I still watch those amazing videos of your Danish orchestra work with tGtBatU. I left twitter because it was too depressing with all the politics. I like Instagram where I can look at Paul McCartney pics. Anyways what is BS is somebody in his seventies who doesn’t know how to chill and enjoy eggs benedict and a nap and remember all the beautiful things from the past instead of running the same treadmill pretending there is no end. When you show dissatisfaction the way he did you know its over. If isn’t perfect you get upset? Time to quit. Nothing is perfect.

I am not dissing the arts or conducting. I was flagonthemoon on twitter and still watch the amazing Danish orchestra videos. I left twitter because it was too depressing with the anger and politics. Even my comment above sounds angry. I like Instagram where I can look at paul McCartney pics. But if you can’t chill in your seventies and enjoy a nice breakfast, a nap and dwell on great memories it is sad if you got to be on a treadmill and cannot say been there done that.
